Brief background
Ellen Spertus is computer science researcher and educator with a strong interest in computing and society, particularly with respect to opportunities for women and under-represented groups. Ellen was recognized with the Women Who Dare Award by Girls Inc. of the Island City in 2007. In 2001, she won the distinction of being named Sexiest Geek Alive and in 2002 was recognized by ABCNews.com as one of the Top Ten Wired Women.
At the time of this interview, Ellen Spertus was an Associate Professor of Computer Science at Mills College and Research Scientist at Google.
