Brief background
Gordon Davies recently retired after forty years of teaching. He spent the last twenty years of his teaching career as part of the Faculty of Computing at The Open University in the U.K., where he led the development of one of the largest distance courses they had produced.
He has spent much time volunteering and working for the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM), for example in helping to create ACM Professional Development Center and as part of the ACM Education Board. He has served on the Committee for Accreditation of the British Computer Society (BCS) (now renamed as BCS, The Chartered Institute for IT) and was a member of the Joint Task Force for Computing Curricula 2001 and 2005.
In 2011, four years after this interview, Gordon Davies received the SIGCSE Award for Lifetime Service with the citation “For many years of valuable and generous service to the computing education community including contributions through active membership on international committees, working groups, and conference program committees.”
